444321-1 US 41 at Bonita Beach Road (C.R. 865) Project Development & Environment (PD&E) Study
Project Details
About
On July 25, 2025, the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) Office of Environmental Management (OEM), pursuant to 23 U.S.C. § 327 and a Memorandum of Understanding dated May 26, 2022, and executed by the Federal Highway Administration and FDOT, granted Location and Design Concept Acceptance for the US 41 (SR 45) at Bonita Beach Road Project Development & Environment (PD&E) Study in Lee County.
The proposed improvements consist of modifying the US 41 and Bonita Beach Road signalized intersection to a partial displaced left turn (DLT) configuration, with the northbound and southbound left turn movements crossing over to the outside of opposing traffic. This design allows the northbound and southbound left turns to operate simultaneously with the through movements on US 41, improving traffic flow and reducing delays.
As part of the intersection improvement, a new northeast quadrant roadway will connect US 41 to Arroyal Road, providing additional access and circulation benefits. Multimodal features are also included, with a 12-foot shared use path provided throughout the intersection area to enhance pedestrian and bicycle connectivity.
Approval of the recommended alternative followed a comprehensive PD&E study process that evaluated multiple alternatives, including an overpass option and a no-build alternative. The study included detailed engineering and environmental analysis, interagency coordination, and robust public involvement.
This project will now proceed into the next phase of development, which is design.
Public Involvement
Location Design Concept Acceptance has been granted for this project, and the project will now proceed to the next phase of development, which is design.
FDOT held a public hearing, both live online and in-person, on March 26, 2024. Materials were also available for review and comment below from March 4, 2024, and comments for the workshop were accepted in multiple ways through April 5, 2024.
