About
The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT), District One has completed a Wildlife Crossing Feasibility Study for a section of US 27 from Highlands-Glades County Line to 0.1 miles south of Hendry Road in Highlands County. The project limits are shown on the project location map below. The study involved the evaluation of multiple crossing location alternatives, various structure types and wildlife fencing alternatives to minimize the risk of wildlife-vehicle collisions along this section of US 27. This website contains the Wildlife Crossing Feasibility Study and provides for public involvement opportunities and contact information. The Design Firm has been selected and the contract has executed at the beginning of June 2022. Phase II design plans have been completed as of December 2023.
The project is now advancing into the construction phase.

Construction activities will focus on implementing the recommended wildlife crossing structures and fencing to improve roadway safety and reduce wildlife-vehicle collisions along US 27.
