About

The State Road 64 improvement project in Hardee County involves a comprehensive set of roadway upgrades aimed at enhancing safety, durability, and overall driving conditions. The project includes milling and resurfacing the existing pavement, reconstructing worn sections of the roadway, and improving drainage systems to prevent water accumulation and reduce erosion. Additional enhancements involve the replacement and installation of guardrails, updated signing and pavement markings for better visibility and traffic guidance, and improvements to driveway turnouts for smoother and safer property access. To help manage traffic during construction, the project will also implement Driveway Assistance Devices (DAD's), a temporary signal, and other temporary traffic control measures to maintain safe and efficient access for both motorists and property owners throughout the work zone.

RoadWatch
  • SR 64 from Pear Street to S Barlow Road: Construction project: The State Road 64 improvement project in Hardee County includes milling and resurfacing existing pavement, reconstructing worn sections of roadway, improving drainage systems, replacing and installing guardrails, updating signage and pavement markings, and enhancing driveway turnouts for safer access. Please use caution in the area and watch for workers, traffic signage, detours and equipment throughout the project.

    • Intermittent shoulder and single-lane closures on SR 64 eastbound and westbound will occur throughout the project limits for driveway turnout construction.
    • Crews installed temporary signal devices and Driveway Assistance Devices (DADs) on SR 64 to facilitate lane closures during the complete reconstruction of a superelevated curve near Griffin Road. During this operation, the roadway will be reduced to one-way traffic, with movements controlled by the temporary signal devices so that only one lane proceeds at a time. This operation is expected to continue for approximately three months, weather permitting. Motorists should use caution, watch for workers and equipment, and follow posted signage.
    • Please be advised that the posted speed limit has been reduced to 45 MPH throughout the project limits.
    • Motorists should use caution in the area, watch for workers, equipment, and signage, and expect changing traffic patterns.
    • Motorists should anticipate longer delays in queues, follow posted signs, and consider alternative routes.

Estimated project completion is early 2026
