The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT), District One, began construction on August 1, 2023, to improve 3.37 miles of SR 70 from the Peace River to SE Baker Street within the City of Arcadia.

The project will reconstruct the roadway and includes:

• Installation of new drainage facilities

• Relocation and addition of sanitary and watermain utilities

• Upgraded traffic signals at SR 70 and Polk Avenue, Desoto Avenue, Brevard Avenue, and Turner Avenue

• Sidewalk reconstruction along SR 70

• Street lighting in various locations
